Why should I have more than one backup?
Your data isn’t safe unless you’re backing up properly, and with lots of redundancy. The 3-2-1 backup rule can help you reduce the chance of losing your data entirely.
Using one kind of backup is not really a backup. You need both on-site backup storage (e.g. backup drives/tapes) and off-site backup storage (e.g. automated cloud backups).
Here’s the 3-2-1 rule explained:
3 – 3 copies of anything you care about. Two isn’t enough if it’s important.
2 – 2 local backups e.g. USB backup drives and a network attached storage (NAS) drive.
1 – 1 off-site backup. If your office burns down, how will you get your data back?
